I always think of the News at 10 when I see Big Ben. Its the nickname for the worlds largest four-faced chiming clock. The guide was unsure where the nickname came from, as she told us that there are many different theories on its origins. Its a lovely structure and an interesting point to note is that while overseas visitors are not allowed inside the tower itself, UK residents themselves can access it if they arrange it with their local MP. Now I do know this really just a big clock, but I was so excited to see it. I remember being in bed when I was a child and hearing the English news come on and then you would hear the chime of Big Ben. The architecture on the clock tower itself is fabulous.
